Parent Association Review

By Debi & P-Jay Fidler, Co-Presidents

On behalf of the Los Encinos PA Board, we salute the parent community for your continued support & dedication.  The 2022-2023 school year was full-steam ahead as all classes, students, faculty, and staff were back on campus following the challenging two-year pandemic. We were inspired to see so many parents (and grandparents) contribute their time, efforts, and talents to this amazing group of children and this school.

Year-round, devoted parents volunteered on committees such as Book Buddies, the Halloween Festival, Teacher Appreciation Day, our annual Gala, and served Hot Lunch, too!

As a small school, Los Encinos relies on parent volunteers — and we’re grateful to have such an active, supportive community. If you’d like to get involved, and I encourage you to do so, log into the portal and follow the instructions to join a committee (or three)!

Take a look at just some of our 2022-2023 Community Events:

Book Buddies

Another popular friend-raiser year after year is called, Book Buddies.  This event supports our library by allowing parents to donate new books from a selection on the teachers’ “wish lists.” It also demonstrates to the children the value we place on reading new and exciting material.

Very special thanks to our chair, Brooke Avishay, and her committee.

Halloween Festival & Parade

A costume parade, carnival games, treats o’plenty, a spooky maze (famously put together by 6th grade) AND a 1/2 day of school… nothing to boo about here!!   This festival wouldn’t be possible without the help of our parent volunteers who help set up and run the booths and transform/decorate the entire campus in just 1.5 hours!!

Very special thanks to our chair, Andy Raymer.

Día de los Muertos

To honor loved ones who’ve passed, students thoughtfully curate precious altars that are then put on display.  During this festival, the students enjoy symbolic and meaningful centers, like Sugar Skull decorating, Face-painting, Paper Flower-making, and more.

Thank you to all of the parents for volunteering your time to run the various centers.

Sports Day

This long-standing end-of-year tradition was once again a success, and the largest parent volunteer driven event of the school year! It’s all hands on deck for the numerous water games, relay races, water slide and other fun activities for the students.

Very special thanks to our co-chairs, Andy Raymer & Scott Sloane.

Spring Gala

This year, we went back to the Skirball with a Roaring 20’s theme and big band to raise money for our new & improved security team!  We had a new Gala Chair and Auction Chair this year – these ladies did a phenomenal job and we can’t wait to see what they put together next year!!

Thank you to Ashley Brown, Anna Hopkins, Anna Kramer, the supporting committee and to all of the parents for gathering goods & services for our auction.  See the next page in this report for all of the Gala highlights!
